TVS Ladies Basketball:
2004-2005 Preview:   This team will be the antithesis of last years senior heavy team. With 5 seniors who contributed, it gave TVS their best season record in years. This years squad will be young - indications are that there will be just 1 seniors this season. Leaving the gate open for the younger players to get varsity experience. They will have to learn fast as the team will return only 2 players with significant varsity playing time. Look for the team to start slow as they get used to playing together but I think that they have good enough athletes to finish strong in the second half of the season.

Season summary: As predicted the team started slow, but picked up momentum in the last half of the season. They just missed a chance to finish the regular season at .500. Hayes had a decent year and was selected to the all CCC team. Two freshmen were also given recognition by the league - perhaps a sign of things to come. Both Brubaker and Lipps showed flashes of what they could be during the season. Durkle did a respectable job at point guard. The team still needs consistant outside shooting. But hopefully the girls will work on their game in the offseason. On paper the team should be strong next year... if everyone comes back. Durkle was the lone senior so there should only be 2 maybe 3 roster spots open - there will be a lot of competition for those slots. Another talented freshman class will be moving up, so there will be a lot of pressure on players hoping to make varsity.

  • Nov 23 TVS 54 at National Trail 52 Preview: Trail graduated Troutwine. But they still have Halderman. Halderman is athletic and likes to cut to the basket. If TVS can control the paint and not allow her to slash to the basket they should negate her offense. Plus does Halderman cannot do it alone, Trail needs some other players to step up. The game: Wow what a way to start the season. Trail took an early lead and grew it to about 8 points. TVS made a couple of runs, but didn't seem to able to close the gap. In the 4th quarter TVS finally made a determined run. They closed the gap and with about 2 minutes left got the lead for the first time. There was a fight on the court involving Brittany Hayes. Apparently elbows were exchanged and then fists. Which added more tension to an already intense game. TVS held off a Trail last second shot for the win. The team ended the night with 2 freshmen on the court - a sign of things to come? Team depth was a factor. The TVS bench gave their starters a chance to get some air, while NT had to keep their key players on the court. This may have made a difference in the critical 4th quarter.
  • Nov 30 TVS 27 at Preble Shawnee 45 Preview: *** I have not heard anything definitive about winter sports at PS. We should have a clearer picture on Nov. 3. I know some players have jumped ship to other schools. Plus have they been able to do any preseason conditioning? TVS should have a chance here. TVS played with them the first quarter, but the Arrows pulled away and won easily.
  • Dec 2 TVS 25 hosts Mississennawa Valley 44 Preview: Blackhawks have been playing strong ball, should be a good game. Another loss for the Panthers. The team is searching for some offense.
  • Dec 4 TVS 21 at Middletown Madison 47 Preview: Madison has some strong players coming back. They have height and good guards. This will be a challenge for the Panthers. The offense was dismal, we weren't into double digits until the second half when Kali DuChemin sunk free throws to get TVS to 10 points.
  • Dec 9 TVS 24 at Covington 58 The Bucc's have reloaded this season. The Panthers will need to be at top of their game for this one. TVS shot more, but could not get their shots to drop.
  • Dec 16 vs. Newton 26 TVS 57 Preview should be able to capture a win here. The game: TVS looked strong from the beginning and were in the drivers seat the entire game. Outside shooting was on for the first time this season. Freshman Debbie Brubaker took charge at point guard.
  • Dec 29-30 Holiday tournament at Dixie. TVS lost to Dixie by 2 and lost the consolation to Jefferson by like 6.

Congrats to the Reserve team that won the Reserve Tournament!

  • Jan 4 TVS 32 vs. Tri Village 62. Another tough game for the Panthers, the Patriots look to be a challenger again this season. Once this team gets down, they don't get back up. The Patriots built an early lead and romped to victory. The girls just didn't seem to get in sync at all for this game. Only bright spot was Hayes 18 points. I think TV was the better team, but we should have played better.
  • Jan 6 TVS 47 vs. Bethel 39 Preview Should be a winnable game for TVS, if they are ready to play. The Game: Post play got the win for Panthers. McCoy had 21 points and three post players combined for 35 of South's points.
  • Jan 8 TVS 45 Brookville 40Preview Look for an always tough Brookville team to be lighting it up behind the arc. They have some height inside as well. TVS will have their hands full. The game: TVS adjusted well. Hayes was hurt and played sporadiacly. But the team scored outside when the inside game was shut down in the second half. A quality win for the Panthers.
  • Jan 10 TVS 37 at Sidney Lehman 80 Preview No breaks for the Panthers - the Cavaliers will be another tough team. The game: We were short Hayes and Stone, but the team got behind early and never got on track. They reacted to Lehman the same way they did to Tri Village. When they meet a strong opponent the team seems to throw in the towell. The Sidney defense generated turnover after turnover from South. Lipps lead the Panthers in scoring.
  • Jan 13 TVS 29 at TCN 28 Preview TCN has only managed a couple of wins. They are using a run and gun offense and a pressing defense. When it's a battle of rivals anything can happen. The game: Both teams had problems handling the ball - turnovers were occurring left and right. TVS got an early lead and went into cruise control in the last period. TCN caught up, but could not pass TVS. South barely escapes with a win.
  • Jan 15 TVS 35 at Arcanum 55Preview The Trojans are tough this year. TVS will have their hands full on Saturday. The game: South played well in the middle of this game. The first quarter was dreadful as TVS only scored 3 points. They looked to be intimidated as they had been against Tri Village and Lehman. But in the second quarter they outscored Arcanum and at the end of the third it was like a 4 point ball game. The Trojans surged ahead in the 4th and won pulling away. But it was nice to see the team show some spirit and battle back against a superior team.
  • Jan 18 TVS 44 at Northridge 40 Preview Northridge will try to shoot from downtown and fall back into a zone. TVS will have to pressure the outside shooters and work the ball around to find gaps in the Polar Defense. The game: TVS got an early lead, but the Polar Bears stuck around. In the 4th quarter TVS was not hitting their shots and the Bears closed the gap and even lead briefly. South came back and was able to capture the lead towards the end due to foul shooting by Durkle and a Hayes put back.
  • Jan 20 TVS vs. Ansonia Preview Ansonia is having a rough season. But TVS cannot take them lightly - after the scare from the North the team has to come out focused. The game:
  • Jan 25 TVS 46 vs. Carlisle 49 Preview Carlisle has had a tough season. If TVS is in sync they should be able to capture a victory. The game: TVS lead for over 3/4 of the game. But they could not seperate themselves from the Indians. Part of it was being outhustled for loose balls and not being aggressive on the boards. A game the Panthers could have won.
  • Jan 27 TVS 30 vs. Franklin Monroe 76 Preview FM is a scoring machine. They put over a hundred points on the board against Newton. TVS will need to slow down the pace of the game and play stiff defense to have a chance. The game: Franklin Monroe hit the floor running and did not give the Panthers a chance to breath. An easy victory for the Jets.
  • Feb. 3 TVS winners over Bradford Preview Both of these final games are games that the Panthers have a chance to win. But they need to have that killer instinstinct and put away these teams. If they allow them to hang around...well se saw what Carlisle did. The Game: TVS won handily.
  • Feb. 5 TVS winners over Eaton PreviewShould be a battle inside - The Johnson girls against South's McCoy and Hayes. The game: TVS lead for most of the game, but Eaton made a comeback bid that fell short.
  • State tournament: TVS winners over New Miami to break a first round losing streak for many years. TVS lost to Franklin Monroe, but they made it a closer game than their first encounter.
