TVS Girls Prepped for Season.
J. C. Tilton

Twin Valley South got off to a slow start last year but finished strong. Will that momentum carry over to this season? Despite having no seniors on last years squad, only 2 starters return Dani Lipps and Kali Duchemin. One player transferred out and several elected not to play this season. So it will be tough for South's prospects with some good athletes in the stands instead of on the court.

Despite the loss of several starters coach Robinson has seen some things that she likes about this team. “They seem to have quicker speed, I see heart and desire, they are working hard and playing smart.” When asked about areas where she would like to see the team improve before the start of the season, she mentioned shooting. “We need to have confidence that we can shoot from outside and we need to be strong inside.” Also experience will be a challenge. Several players are making the jump from JV to varsity. According to coach Robinson the keys for this season will be, “Keeping the team motivated, work hard, don't get discouraged, and to build on each game as the team did last season.”

The seniors on the squad were asked about challenges for the team, Seniors Dani Lipps and Courtney Reed both agreed that a lack of height would be a problem. Courtney Reed remarked, “We are really going to have to work together and see the court. We will really need to box out because we are going to be outsized”. She was happy with the team chemistry, “We are seeing openings and good team work; no one is hogging the ball.” Dani Lipps had this response about team challenges, “Defense is where we really need to improve on and what we need to shine in.” When asked about goal for the season, her reply was, “Our goal is to have fun - we like to be around each other. We might as well enjoy the time we have to spend with each other”.

Coach Robinson sees perennial CCC challengers Franklin Monroe and Covington as being the teams to beat this winter. Arcanum also figures to be a favorite was well. With the lack of height, South will have a tough time being competitive at the top of the heap. They will be somewhere in the middle unless they have excellent team work and chemistry this season.
