South Loses in a Pitchers Duel
Contributed by Frank Wright

Versailles scored their only run in the first inning. The lead off hitter reached base on an error. The second batter hit a single and they had runners at first and second. Zac Richard hit a fly to right, then they had runners at first and third. Wes Rehmert picked the runner off first and during the run down the runner from third scored. The next batter struck out and ended the inning. the only other threat to score by Versailles was in the 4th. We walked the two lead off hitters. With runners at first and second Rehmert struck out the next two batters and the third flew out to center field.
We threatened to score in the 4th. Weston Bassler struck out, but got on because of a wild pitch. He attempted to steal second and was called out on a controversial call. Cory Bassler flew out for the second out. Wes Rehmert singled, followed by Steve Summers with a single. With runners at first and second and two outs Brad Oney grounded out to end the inning. This was our only threat as Versailles scored the only run of the game and went to the next round with a 1-0 win.
I was very pleased with the way our kids played. They played extremely hard. Wes Rehmert pitched an exceptional game, but we just could not come up with the run support. Versailles Zac Richard is a very good pitcher and we could not get the break we needed.
Overall I was pleased with our season. We made it back to the sectional finals. We did not accomplish some of the goals that we had set out to achieve as far as league, but we are young and have a lot coming back. We will miss our three seniors, but I am optimistic about our younger players filling their shoes. I think we can pick up from were we left off this year. We finish the regular season at 11-11 and 8-3 in the league.
