Greyhounds Run Away with Tournament.
J. C. Tilton

The Lady Greyhounds were aggressive from the opening whistle to the final horn a day later as they hosted and won their Holiday Tournament. They played their first game against the Stivers Tigers. They had a decent lead but went on a tear in the last minute and half of the first quarter - scoring an amazing 13 points that time! The team did not look back as they went on to win 84-21. 5 players scored in double figures - Carpenter and Cummins had 10, Hiliary Nil had 11, Jessica Leis 12, and Sarah Kelhoffer lead all scorers with 17.

Northridge had edged South by a bucket to play in the finals against Dixie. Their game plan was to stop Sarah Kelhoffer by placing a defender on her the entire game and control the inside. This was effective as Kelhoffer was held to just 2 points. With Dixie's leading scorer shut down, the Greyhounds needed points from somewhere else. Three Greyhounds stepped up to the challenge - Alex Cummins lead the way with 18 points from 6 treys - which tied a school record, Hiliary Nil had 16, and Megan Milliken had 14. The Greyhounds would win 52-31.

Coach Beglein acknowledged that Northridge did a good job of shutting down Kelhoffer's scoring - “but she still had 8 assists and did a good job of running the offense”. On tournament MVP Alex Cummins, “Not only did she provide scoring, but she hit a key basket that swung the momentum back our way in the second quarter. Northridge had a run going and had pulled within two points. Alex drained a three at that point and we went on a run and broke the game open.” The coach was happy for Hiliary Nil, “She scored a personal best for the season and made the all-tournament team.” Finally the coach summed up the tournament with comments on two other players. “Randi Bargo didn't get the points, but she made a difference in the post. Randi held her own against the big girls underneath. And it's too bad that Megan Milliken couldn't get on the all tournament team somehow, she had a good tournament overall too.” Comments
