Dixie Out Shot by Jets
J. Chris Tilton

The Dixie girls encountered a tough Franklin Monroe team this past Tuesday. The team got off to a slow start in the first half. They gave up transition baskets to the Jets and were cold shooting from the floor. The Jets came out on fire and quickly gained a sizable lead - up 40-15 at the break. However the Dixie girls showed determination after halftime and closed the gap to make the score a more respectable 63-49. The team shot better in the second half and actually outscored the Jets.

Coach Erin May thought that the teams lay off due to weather was a factor in their slow start. “We only got to play one game in the last 2 weeks because of the weather. Saturday was our first game back and it was against Franklin Monroe which is a very strong team. You could tell that we hadn't played in a couple of weeks because we were tired with in the first couple minutes, and were getting beat getting back, and most of their first half points came from lay-ups.” When asked about the second half play of the team Coach May's responded, “The thing that always amazes me from our girls is that they are a fighting team, and never give up no matter what the score was. FM never let up against us and had their starters in the whole time, so I believe if we would have came out like we did in the 2nd half it would have been a better game. We ended up winning the last 2 quarters so I am proud of our girls. The thing with us is right now we are either a first half team or a 2nd half team, once we finally play the whole game the way we can it should start to get very interesting hopefully in our league games and heading into the tournament. We still need our girls to step it up and put up the numbers they are capable of, once that starts we will be a dynamite team.”

Scoring for Dixe: Abby Witt 13 points, Megan Millikin 13 points, Randi Bargo 6 points 13 rebounds, Sara Kelhoffer had 7 points, Alex Cummins 5 points, Hillary Nill 2 points, Emily Kirby 2 points. Dixie plays a Monday make up game against Northridge and a Thursday the team hosts Waynesville. Both are important SWBL contests for the Greyhounds. Also on December 28th and 29th Dixie girls will be hosting their Holiday tournament. Comments:
