The TVS girls basketball team has been on a 4 game losing streak. The team had been held to under 30 points in each of their losses. Newton had not managed to do any better this season. They were winless, while South had only managed a narrow 2 point victory in their season opener against Trail. Newton came into the game trying to dig their way out of the basement of the CCC, while TVS was trying to re-establish their offense and get the team back in the win column.

South was aggressive early going into a press. The scoring was slow in the first part of the opening quarter but in the last half of the quarter TVS established their dominance opening a 19-8 lead. Many of their points came from layups, but a part of the game that had been missing finally established itself. South was shooting and hitting their outside shots. Dany Lipps shot and made the teams first 3 point shot of the season. Several players were making shots in the 12 to 15 foot range. Brittany Hayes had a good inside game as well, scoring a game high 17 points. The team had a healthy lead going into halftime and cruised to an easy 57-23 victory.

Coach Robinson was happy after the win, “I think that the whole team feels about 50 pounds lighter each. We just had such a heavy weight on our shoulders [speaking of the losing streak]. The more we tried, the harder we pressed and we just relaxed and played tonight. It was the team that I see at practice almost every day. Everybody played well”. The coach started Debbie Brubaker at point guard, “We've been wanting to work her into that position all year. Durkle is really not a point guard, she has just been filling that spot until we gave Debbie some experience. Bambeck will also see time at point. Durkle plays better out on the wing - she's such a good rebounder for her size - she leaps”.

Next up for TVS is the Holiday tournament at Dixie. They will play play in the opening game against Dixie on December 29th. This will be followed by the Stivers-Jefferson game. The consolation and championship games will take place on December 30th. Comments:
