South Prevails in Blizzard of Three's
J. C. Tilton

There was a freezing rain outside, but a blizzard of three's inside as South defeated the Eaton Eagles on Saturday night. Eaton played mainly a 2-3 defense and TVS picked it apart as they worked the ball around for an open shot. Eaton did press a few times and employ a trapping defense - particularly in the last quarter when they were desperately trying to make up lost ground, but TVS handled the pressure and controlled the game from beginning to end. Defensively TVS played an aggressive zone that generated a few turnovers from the Eagles. South was up 41-20 at the half and cruised to a 66-41 win.

The team had 15 three point shots unofficially. It was definitely the outside game and a stingy defense that made the difference. Andy Dawson lead scoring with 5 three point shots and a total of 19 points. Coach Augspurger was happy with his first win of this season, “Last night [against Tri Village] the team played uptight, for many of the guys it was their first varsity start. They did some things that you can't do if you want to be successful. Tonight we talked about the importance of getting off to a good start. We did a great job of that - we played a great first quarter. We made good passing decisions for the most part. It made for a fun game for them. We have a lot to work on, but we also have the ability to be pretty good. We have a lot of guys who can make shots. So we are working on handling the ball and passing the ball. We were at home and benefited from our larger floor.”

South lost their opener at Tri Village 49-38. When asked about the Tri Village game, Coach Augspurger praised the two senior players that lead scoring for the Patriots, “Sam Lindamood, an all league returning starter, and Daniel Foreman - they had 38 of their 49 points. They made all kinds of nice plays for Tri Village. The team did a nice job of not giving us great looks. We shot a little jittery and did not rebound at all. And we had defensive breakdowns, which with a young team we're going to do that. We got off to a bad start and Tri Village outplayed us. We didn't do things very well and that one of the things about tonight - the same guys were on the floor and they just played a lot smarter and got a lot more better. Next Friday the team plays away at Bethel on Friday and hosts Preble Shawnee of Saturday. Comments:
