Dixie Girls Start Season 2-1
J. C. Tilton

The Lady Greyhounds have gotten off to a solid start in the first week of the season. They opened against Tri County North where they easily overwhelmed the Panthers. Megan Milliken lead all scorers with 21 points. Other scorers were Bargo 8, Cummins 8, Nill 7, Witt 6, Kelhoffer 5.

Dixie was overwhelmed by a powerful Valley View team. Coach May would relate, “We had a rough start and Valley View was hitting everything. They have a nice ball club, but our heads just weren't in the game. We came out and got out rebounded, and out hustled.” Although they had a rough go of it against the Spartans, Coach May thought that “Our girls fought hard, and didn't give up. I am proud of them for that, but all teams lose once and a while, the good teams are the ones that bounce back.” The final score was Dixie 32, VV 85. Scoring for the Hounds: Randi Bargo 10, Witt 7, Kelhoffer 6, Nill 4, Millikan 3, Leis 2.

The Greyhounds opened league play against the Carlisle Indians. The Hounds applied vigorous defensive pressure and only allowed 2 points in the first quarter. At halftime Dixie went to the locker room with a comfortable lead. But the Indians had other ideas. Dixie relaxed in the second half while Carlisle chipped away at the Dixie lead. The time spent at the free throw line in practice paid off as Dixie hit some key throws down the stretch to salvage the victory 57-48. Coach May had these post game comments, “We opened the second half like we already had the game in the bag, and Carlisle did a nice job of not believing that the game was over. We got outscored our last two quarters, but some big free throws from Abby Witt, and Millikin finished the game. We will take the victory but we have a lot we need to work on, to reach our full potential. I am proud of the girls for fighting back and not letting the game slip away.” May was also pleased with the rebounding and how Dixie ran the tempo of the game at their fast pace. Scoring: Millikan 18, Kelhoffer 15, Bargo 8, Witt 7, Cummins 5, Mill and Leis each had 2. Comments:
