Dixie and South Come Up Short
J. C. Tilton

Dixie went to Brookville hoping to get one more victory that would put the team at 5-5. Although Brookville has a losing record, they are still a D4 team and appeared to dress about twice as many players as Dixie. This would figure into their stragedy as Brookville would run, run, and run some more to wear down the Dixie defenders, many of whom play both ways. The difference would appear on the scoreboard as there was little scoring early, but as Dixie wore down the points would accumulate for Brookville.

A fired up Dixie team had some spark in the beginning a Nick Miller to Ben Spahr pass moved the ball to midfield, but a fumble gave the ball to Brookville. The Bluedevils moved the ball deep into Dixie territory. The Dixie defense held on a 4th and less than a yard play and the Greyhounds were back in business. But they were held to 3 plays and a punt. It became apparent early that the Greyhounds were having problems running the ball. They were able to pass, but Brookville was taking away the ground game.

The first half ended scoreless, and early in the second quarter the Greyhounds mounted their best threat of the first half. After a fumble recovery on their own 34, Dixie moved the ball downfield. Joey Blosser caught a 28 yard passs from Nick Miller to put the ball into Brookville territory. Miller had a quarterback sneak for a first down and Tyler Wilson planted the ball on the Brookville 16 for another first down. Brookville's Zack Lammers knocked away a pass to Ben Spahr in the endzone and suddenly it was 4th and long for the Hounds. The drive fizzled when Nick Miller was sacked for a loss.

Their defensive stand was a big momentum swing and Brookville took advantage. Brody Osborn broke free on a carry and rambled 64 yards before being caught. Dusty Haworth then scored to put Brookville up 7-0. Despite a nice return to midfield by Eddie Bellman, Dixie was unable to move the ball and had to punt again. Brookville again marched the ball downfield. They gave up the ball on downs in Dixie territory. But on their first play, Dixie immediately fumbled the ball right back to the Bluedevils. With time running out, they went for a field goal as time run out to enter the locker room with a 10-0 lead.

In the third quarter the wheels fell off the cart for the Greyhounds. Brookville passed for one TD and ran for 2 more. Alex Baker caught a pass from Zach Lammers, and Brody Osborn crossed the goal line twice. Brookville scored 20 unanswered points. Dixie's Tyler Wilson was able to score for the Greyhounds in the last quarter to avoid the shutout. The Greyhounds finish the season 4-6, while Brookville is 2-8.

It was a familiar tune for South as they were overwhelmed by Arcanum. The Trojans smell the playoffs and they quickly and decisively put away the Panthers. Final Score Arcanum 42-TVS 12. Arcanum finishes the season 9-1, while TVS finishes 0-10.
