South Volleyball - Keeps on Rolling
J. C. Tilton

The Twin Valley South volleyball team just keeps rolling along. This was a busy week for the team as they battled 5 teams - including a division I team. Monday's match was against neighboring Preble Shawnee. That team has had to struggle this season. Pay to play has been a factor in turnout and the team is just struggling. South won this match 25-8, 25-6, 25-19

Covington is generally in the top half the CCC, but they have been a .500 team as of late. South started out slow in their first two sets against the Buccaneers. They allowed Covington to stay close before finally pulling away about midway thru each match. Covington did not help themselves as some bad serves and poor hits contributed points to the Panther cause. Covington gave a better accounting of themselves in the final match, but South outlasted them to win. Scores were: 25-16, 25-13, 25-20

On Thursday South went up against another CCC foe, Newton. The Indians were dispatched: 25-6, 25-9, 25-11. The Panthers ended their week at Dixie on Saturday for a tournament. Their first match was against Division 1 Lancaster. Lancaster was riding a 15 match winning streak, and were also ranked in the top 20 of the state. But the South team was up to the challenge as they defeated them 25-17, 25-23. South won the championship by defeating Dixie 25-13, 25-11. Another fine week to say the least!

Coach Roberts was exuberant after Saturdays wins, particularly against ranked Lancaster. “This was a great win for the girls. We were able to tactically out play Lancaster at times and control the net at others. Our ability to control the ball was the ultimate reason we won the match. It was a total team effort”.

South's regular season will wind down next week: Tuesday at Tri Village, Thursday
