Turnovers Derail TVS
J. C. Tilton

Friday night TVS hosted Bradford in a battle of winless teams. The Railroaders steamed to an early lead. They received the opening kick and advanced the ball 65 yards to get an early 7-0 lead. TVS was ineffective in the first quarter both on offense and defense. The second score for Bradford was a 35 yard TD pass. This made the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, and the prospects looked dim for the Panthers.

The defense made a good stand in the second quarter when Dustin Bassler was able to intercept the ball and run it back to the 10 yard. The Panthers couldn't take advantage of this gift as they turned around threw an interception of their own, ending this scoring opportunity. This would be a familiar theme for the night as turnovers would end potential scoring drives several times. The TVS offense was able to get in gear and score with 45 yard TD pass from Anthony Armstrong to Dustin Bassler. At the half, it was 14-7 in favor of Bradford.

The TVS defense must have made some critical adjustments at halftime as they only allowed Bradford 58 yards for the remainder of the game after allowing about 150 yards in the first half. The offense was able to move the ball in the second half, but two drives were ended abruptly inside the 20 by interceptions. The Panthers were able to find the endzone again when Robby Lakes scored on a one yard TD plunge. But the extra point hit the upright making the score 14-13 in favor of Bradford.

TVS would have one more opportunity set up by a Lyle Johnson interception. But the 2 minute drill by TVS was ended by a turnover. Bradford was able to sit on the ball and run out the clock for the victory. Coach Meyer was proud of the way that the team “competed to the end. They are learning to play thru their mistakes, and are doing better at playing thru momentum changes.” This was in reference to the defense stepping it up after a turnover. It was a tough, hard fought loss for TVS who will visit National Trail next Friday.
