Dixie Volleyball Wrap Up.
J. C. Tilton

According to coach Erin May “we can't finish close games.” That was evident the past two weeks when the team went toe to toe in two marathon matches only to fall short in both. Still the team is progressing and although the victories are trickling in, the effort to win is getting better as the season goes on. Due to problem with the previous week's story missing the deadline, this week we will catch up by doing the past 2 weeks worth of volleyball.

The team lost one of the hard fought matches to Waynesville. The scores were: 23-25,25-22,12-25,25-15,15-10. Coach May commented, “[This] was an awesome match to be part of. Our girls really played a great game, they never gave up. We really went out there and played like a different team. We covered really well and were hitting our spots. We had some girls step up and finally play the way that I have been waiting for all season. We hustled after everything, and set the ball well.”

Next up was Brookville. The team just did not get on track for this game and lost 25-15,25-18,25-20. Coach May thought that the team was completely different for this match. They just did not respond, on the other hand Brookville did a good job of picking up everything that Dixie threw at them. This past week though, Dixie rebounded against Carlisle. In her post game comments May said that, “[We] played together as a team, and finished a match in 3 games. We worked really well together hustling and letting nothing drop. Had good leadership from our captains.” The scores were 25-17,25-21,25-18.

The final game for this past week was another Marathon, this time against Northridge. Dixie dug themselves in a hole by losing the first two sets, winning the third, but finally falling in the 4th. Scores were: 25-21 31-29,21-25,25-21. May really hated to drop this one, “We made a great come back to tie the score 24-24 in the second game, but we just couldn't take advantage of Northridge's Mistakes and we made some critical mistakes ourselves. I was really proud of the girls for not giving up, but I would like to see us finish a close game on top. I think if we would have won the second game we could have won the match. As a team we play our best when everyone is pumped up and excited. That's when you see our real team on the court”!
