Team Play Works for South Volleyball
J. C. Tilton

The victories are getting tougher, but somehow South finds a way to win. Their first match of the week was against Bellbrook. It was a toe to toe battle from start to finish. South lost the first set 15-25 - momentum was going Bellbrook's way. But South rallied and won the second set 25-17. But it was Bellbrook who won the third set 20-25. Now South would have to win the next 2 matches against a formidable foe. A tall order indeed for the Panthers. But the team showed composure and resolve in winning the last two sets 25-18, 16-14. It was a key victory against a tough opponent.

Coach Roberts had some post game comments about the Bellbrook game, “Defeating Bellbrook on their home court was the definite highlight of our week. It was a good non-league win for us. We were put to the test emotionally and physically. I was extremely proud of the girls for pulling together to pull out the victory. We have to remember that
we are a team through it all, good and bad. I believe we do a nice job of getting along when things are going our way, but when we're down, we tend to get a little stressed and as our stress level goes up we have some negative behaviors. If the team collectively can get a hold on these negative attitudes then there is no telling where our play can take
us”.

The next two matches were against league opponents Franklin Monroe and Bradford. The Jets are generally in the top half of the league, but the Panthers dispatched them in 3 sets - although the last set was a close one: 25-16, 25-14, 25-23. The Railroaders were similarly defeated 25-11,15-9, 25-8. South continues CCC play next week when they host National Trail on Tuesday and travel to Mississinnewa Valley on Thursday.
