Local Teams Shutout
J. C. Tilton

Last Friday night was a tough night for local football fans. All of the local teams went down to
defeat and 3 of the 5 teams were shut out. First stop is at Twin Valley South, who had some
glimmers of hope in the first quarter. Covington won the toss and moved the ball well on their
opening drive. But South recovered a fumble on their own 34 and the offense steadily moved the
ball down the field. The clock chewing drive finally ended on the Covington 11 where a field
goal attempt was made. The attempt was blocked and from there the Bucc's offense went to
work.

The Buccaneers ran the ball easily, their line was getting a good push off the ball. They scored
their next two possessions and didn't look back. South was able to get another late drive deep
into Buccaneer territory but it too was stopped cold by a stingy Buccaneer defense. South was
unable to score and was defeated 54-0. South did manage to produce 253 yards of offense, but
could generate no points for their efforts.

Dixie hosted the Eaton Eagles, a team that can manufacture points. This game was no exception
for the Division 3 Eagles as they scored 34 unanswered points in the first half. Dixie was unable
to get a drive together as the Eagle defense kept them flustered. At halftime the school honored
the 1983 Dixie Championship team. Some of the players honored included Mullins, Todd,
Yoder, Powell, Rick Stones, Rod Pahr, Keith Mullins, J. Meyers, and Eric Towe. Towe
(defensive end, offensive guard) was first team all-conference and honorable mention for the all-GMVC team
that season. The Dixie team may have taken some inspiration from the past as they did manage to step up play on
the defensive side of the ball. The Greyhounds shutdown the Eagle offense the remainder of the game. But the
halftime score ended up being the final score as Greyhounds were defeated 34-0.

Bellbrook would cool down a red hot Brookville team. Brookville has been scoring points and has been on a roll.
Bellbrook came in with two quality losses, and were looking for that first win. Bellbrook took out their frustrations
on Brookville 34-0. TCN ran into the Anna Rockets who had spanked Covington the week before and were soundly
defeated 32-6. Finally the Valley View Spartans had the best showing in a losing cause. They managed to score 19
points, but could not bottle the high powered Fairborn offense. The visiting Fairborn team put on an airshow gaining
366 yards passing. All in all it was a frustrating week for local teams who were a combined 0-5. Comments:
