South Volleyball is .500 in First Week.
J. C. Tilton

After making the district finals last year, it will be interesting to see if the South volleyball team can make a repeat appearance or not. The Southwest part of the state has some quality teams - so making district takes a lot of work and execution. Results are mixed - the team is .500 at this time, but they also ran into some quality competition. So it is early in the season, and with some young players on the team, it may take some time to gel and get to the next level.

South started this week against Carlisle. The Indians made a surge in the third game, but finally went down 25-12, 25-5, 25-17. Stats for this game are: Katie McCoy 12 kills, two solo blocks; Danyel Lipps 11 kills, 13 digs; Kate McCollum 7 kills, 4 aces, 8 digs and a solo block; Debbie Brubaker 33 assists, two kills; Kaitlyn Ervin 4 aces, 3 digs and two kills; Maggie McCollum 5 kills.

Next stop was a tournament where South ran into some quality opponents. Adena defeated TVS in the first match 25-15, 25-21. South rebounded and won their next game against Fisher Catholic 25-22, 25-15. Finally Fairlawn defeated TVS 25-10, 20-25, 15-7.

Stats for the Fisher Catholic game: Kate McCollum 2 aces, 8 digs, 8 kills; Katie McCoy 3 digs, 8 kills, solo block; Danyel Lipps 12 digs, seven kills; Debbie Brubaker 12 digs, 3 saves, 23 assists.

This next week is a busy one as TVS will take on some quality local opponents: 9/6 at Brookville, 9/8 host TCN, 9/10 at Eaton TRI,, 9/13 host Arcanum
