High School Football games of local interest Sept 3:

TVS at Bethel: Both teams are coming off of opening day losses. Bethel has a strong set of linebackers and some decent returning linemen. They should have Goins returning at running back who broke some long runs last season. South has shown that they can move the ball and the defense is improving - but they can't afford to allow Goins to break any long runs. This should be another close match up. But this time I will give the nod to TVS to win by 6 or less.

Valley View vs. Cincinnati Jacobs: This is a game to replace Preble Shawnee in the schedule. The Spartan offense sputtered at times last week, but they took advantage of the good field position they received from the stout defense and scored enough to win easily. Jacobs is division 5, I think that playing up against a team the caliber of Valley View will be a huge mountain to climb. Valley View by 21.

TCN at Bradford: North players are tired of being spectators and are ready to take the field against the RailRoaders. North's line and running backs looked strong in the preseason. Although Bradford has many starters returning, but they are from a 2-8 team. And Bradford opened with a lopsided loss. I see North churning up some big running yardage and mixing in the pass, while the linebackers and D-line stack up the Bradford running backs. North by 3 scores.

Brookville at Eaton: Both teams have opening day victories. Eaton is a young team, but has some talent. Manfred Schreyer will be a factor at running back. Brookville is more experienced team. Even though they are playing away, I will lean to Brookville by a TD.

Dixie at New Miami: Dixie has some momentum going into their second game for the first time in years. Offense was slow to get started, but generated some rushing yards and the defense made some good stands with their backs against the wall. New Miami just has not been a football powerhouse, they are off to a slow start again this year losing by a wide margin to Shroder. Dixie wins by 2 scores.

Old Greyhounds wanted: Dixie is going to honor the Football players who played on the 1983 football team during halftime of the Dixie - Eaton game September 10. This team went 8-2 and won the SWBL. Players from this team should contact the Dixie AD at 687-1366.
