TCN: New Coach is an Old Coach.
J. C. Tilton

As of late there has been a revolving as North head coach of Varsity Football. Of the last 3-4 coaches has any of them lasted more than a couple of seasons? This year is no exception as another head coach takes the reins of the program. But this person has a familiar name and is someone that fans of North football all know - Coach Derringer. Now a principal at TCN, he has ended his retirement from football and is glad to be back on the gridiron. We were able to talk right before his team scrimmage against Dixie.

When asked how it felt to be coaching again he responded, “Feels Great! This is my 10th year as head coach. It has been very busy here in the preseason. Hopefully once school starts things will settle down.” The North team is returning some experience. There are a total of 39 players for this season. On the line will be: Reno Hartman at Tight End, Shawn Lafeld, Steve Oswalt, Shane Marker, and Justin Tucker. The running back duties will be split between returning lettermen: Brett Landis, Matt Ferguson, and Matt Zumstein. The defense will be returning an experienced linebacking corp and linemen. But the secondary will have some new faces and the receivers are young as well.

Coach Derringer believes that the attack will be more balanced between the run and pass this season. Although the graduation of Wright is a loss, he has 3 experienced backs that can share the running duties. Assisting this season will be Dan Lewis, John Checks, and Jason Hart. The off season conditioning was well attended and the team attended 7 on 7 at Miami University where they performed well. When asked about season goals Coached Derringer stated that, “North will shoot for the top. To get there we will have beat Arcanum, Anna, and Covington - as well as everyone else.”
