Rivers and Betzner Shine for South at Regionals
J. C. Tilton

The TVS boys finished a repectable 4th in the regional meet. Drew Rivers and Caleb Betzner had a say in the bulk of the scoring for TVS. Both competed in individual events - Rivers acing his two events, the 800m run and the 1600m run with a pair of first place finishes; and Betzner scored in both of his hurdles events - 2nd in the 100m hurdles and 8th in the 300m hurdles. But this pair was not finished. Both Betzner and Rivers also run on the state qualifying 4X400m relay team that finished first at regionals. An outstanding performance for a pair of excellent athletes. Now a question of stragedy for Drew Rivers - will he scratch either the 800m or the 1600m race in order to concentrate on one or the other and get the best time? Or will he try to run both races and the relay in order to score as many points as possible for the team, with the possibility that fatigue will slow him down? Being a senior this will be a one shot deal, it will be interesting to see which stragedy he employees in his final high school meet.

Several local athletes qualified for the state track meet by finishing in the top 4 at the regional meet in Piqua. They will be competing at the state meet at Ohio State University this coming weekend here is a summary: From TVS: Drew Rivers is a triple qualifer in the 1600m run, 800m run, and the 4X400m relay, Caleb Betzner was a double qualifier in the 110m hurdles and also the 4X400m relay, Boys 4X400m relay team - besides Betzner and Rivers, Daniel Donaldson and Jobe Hickey will be participating. Megan Maleski and Molly DuChemin qualifed in the pole vault. For TCN: Gabe Savage will be competing in the 1600m run. For Dixie, Doug Overholtz qualified for state in DII in the Long Jump.
