South: District Runners Up.
J. C. Tilton

The Twin Valley South Girls team has had a knack for second place finishes this season. The team has some solid frontline performers, but not enough depth. Last week the trend continued with a second place finish at the 16 team District track meet. Bethel won the girls district, while Arcanum won the boys district championship. Other local girls teams: Dixie 7th, TCN 8th. Boys teams: TVS third, Dixie 4th, TCN 9th. For athletes to qualify for the Southwest Regional track meet, they need to place in the top four for their event. Local coaches were asked for comment and to list the athletes advancing to the next round.

Lisa Filburn of North: “AJ Summers qualified in Long Jump. Dylan Dudley freshman 2nd place in Pole Vault. Ashley Molina qualified in polevault. Both 4X100 teams made it to regionals. Freshman Abbey Schlater was third in the 3200m run. Out of 35 members on the North track team 13 have qualified for regionals. None of the high jumpers advanced, Drew Heindl made it last year, but this year he didn't, that was a disappointment. It's been one of those years where he has been on/off.”

Coach Mabry girls coach of TVS, “We've been pretty solid, not really any major disappointments. We dropped the baton in the 4X200m relay, but we still finished top three and qualified for regionals. Kate Ervin was second in shot and discus. Beth Bambeck was second in polevault, so she goes on as well. Ashley Groff was second in long jump. Jennifer Bambeck made it to regional in the 400m run. Alexis Jorgenson and Katie Glander came close to qualifying for regional with 5th places in their events. Overall I am pretty happy with our performance.

Coach Farhenholtz boys coach of TVS, “We had some problems with our relays. Dropped the baton in the 4X200m and DQ'ed in the 4X100m. So we lost both of those and didn't run well in the 4X400m. This is the first time we didn't place in the relays - ever. Joe Maleski ran really well - district champion in both the 100m and the 200m. Ben Ansbaugh qualified in the 400m. Both throwers did really well. Jesse Simpson threw the shot 51' 5” and JT Stone threw 50' 7.5, they were second and third in both the shot and discus. Freshman Skylar Recker was third in the high jump and goes on to regionals. Pole Vaulter Jake Unger had ankle injuries this year, but still managed 5th. Jared Krickenbarger was another 5th place finisher in the hurdles, just missed qualifying for district. Overall we did OK, we weren't as deep as we have been in the past.”

Dixie's Coaches, “The girls have done very well this year. Since we haven't had a track or field to practice on [due to football field renovation], they've done exceptionally well. At times we have had to practice in a parking lot. We've had some seniors step up this year into leadership roles and they have been awesome - Sarah Kelhoffer, Morgan Williams, Stephanie Borger. Freshman Erin Cummins has done well, when we asked her step it up, she performed. I am proud of both the boys and girls teams for winning the Xenia Christian Invitational earlier this year despite the adversity. We are looking forward to having a new track next year, we should be able to host some meets and have a good place to practice. Morgan Williams goes to regionals in the 200m dash. Sarah Kelhoffer goes in the high jump. Both the 4X100m and 4X200m teams made it. The 4X200m team ran their best time this season by 5 seconds - Morgan Williams, Codie Frizell, Erin Cummins, and Sarah Kelhoffer. “

For the boys we did about we expected. The 4X800 team Jeremiah Johnson, Josh Cummins, Jared Moore, Billy Hauser qualified for regionals. Eddie Bellman is going in the long jump, Jared Moore in the high jump and the 800m run. Comments:
