Local Athletes Compete in Cross County Conference Meet

Twin Valley South was the site for the Cross County Conference meet. Several local athletes performed well. Jennifer McWhinney continued dominance in the hurdle events winning the 300m and 100m events, and finishing second in the 200m dash. The beefy boys from South had another 1-2 performance in the throwing events. Jesse Simpson finished 1st in the shot and second in disc, while JT Stone placed first in discus and second in shot. South's Joe Maleski had first's in the 100m and 200m dashes. North's 4X100m relay team won first place. South's Kate Ervin won both discus and shot events. Ansonia won the girls crown with 151.3 points. TVS 3rd with 80.5, National Trail 6th 44, TCN 9th 23.3. Arcanum was boys champs with 142.5 points. TVS 2nd 105, TCN 4th 79.5, National Trail 10th 12.
Coach Fahrenholtz was asked about his teams performance, “The shot and discus people held up their end, Simpson and Stone were first and second in both. Skylar Reckers went 5'8” in the high jump and placed 5th, it was good to have him place. Ben Anspaugh placed third in the 400m today. Joe Maleski was great, he won the 100m and the 200m races. Jared Krickenbarger was 3rd in the intermediate hurdles and 5th in the pole vault, plus had a personal best split in the 4X400m relay. The biggest thing was we didn't have our distance runner Steve Taulbee. He was out of town and came back for the meet. The car had a flat on the interstate, the tow truck took forever to get to him and by the time he got here, his events were over. We are also without pole vaulter Jake Unger who's ankle is still out. We hope to have both of them for districts, we haven't lost sight of that. But even with both of them here at this meet, I don't know that we would have caught Arcanum.”
