South .500 for Week
J. C. Tilton

Twin Valley South baseball started the week on an up note with a convincing win over Mississinnewa Valley. Starting pitcher Steve Summers only allowed one hit in the 14-2 victory. Andy Dawson and Steve Summers were both 3 for 4 at the plate. Coach Wright was asked for comment, “Steve Summers pitched a great game - he only allowed the one hit. We came out and played well. We hit the ball well and took care of them the way we should. I was pleased with our performance.”

In the Preble County tournament, South lost a close game to Eaton. The Eagles had a big first inning, scoring 3 runs and South had to play catch up from that point. They did score late, but did not cross the plate often enough, finally losing 5-6. Cory Bassler and Brad Oney each had two hits in the loss. Coach Wright had this to say, “I felt we played a decent ball game. We fell behind early, but we battled back to get in the game. We left too many men on base (12). We did not come through with the big hit when we needed it.”

The post season begins for South as they meet National Trail in the first round of the state tournament, “We play National Trail on Monday in our tournament game. They are a good team and we need to get the hits with men on base. This is the beginning of a new season with tournament. Nothing up to this point matters. You need to show up to play every day, or you are done.” Comments
