Hounds on top at Dixie Classic
J. C. Tilton

This past weekend the Dixie fastpitch team hosted the Dixie Classic. The first game pitted Lemon Monroe against Dixie. The Hounds under the pitching of Buehler held Monroe scoreless for the first few innings. Then Monroe got a rally going and closed to within two of Dixie, down 5-7. Coach Money sent in freshman reliever Ronnie Wamuth with the bases loaded. She coolly pitched her way out of the inning with 2 K's. From there the Dixie bats did the rest of the work, finally dispatching Monroe by a score of 16-6.

TCN then dispatched TVS in the second game of the 4 team tournament. North entered the game with a record of 2-6. Pitching for South was Tessina Jackson, North started Sarah Oldham. Early on the game was tied at 1-1, then the two teams battled back and forth with North finally winning 7-4. In the consolation game, South came on strong against Monroe putting them away easily 10-1. In the Championship game, Dixie blanked North 15-0. Winning pitcher for Dixie was Megan Miller - who has not allowed an earned run all season.

The undefeated Dixie team keeps on rolling here in the first part of the season. Coach Money attributed this to the team chemistry - "the girls are really playing together as a team." The girls have been consistant on defense, and our hitting has been by committee - "it seems like every night someone else steps up and gets the hits." The team has some quality wins, including one over Beavercreek. But the team is looking forward to Mondays game (April 19) against powerhouse Waynesville. The team has been a nemesis to Dixie, knocking them out of the playoffs and consistantly staying on top of the heap in the SWBL. This game will be a test for Dixie. And there are several good teams in their division of the SWBL, so just having a winning league record will be an accomplishment and winning league would be quite an achievement. Pitching and defense are a good part of what it takes to win in fastpitch and Dixie seems to have both this season. April has been good for Dixie, can they stay healthy and keep their momentum thru May? Comments:
