Dixie Fastpitch - Close but…

Dixie had hoped to build some momentum off of their last win the week before. The girls have played some good baseball this week, but have fallen short in their three games. There were two heart breaking 1 run losses. Still Coach Money is trying to focus on keeping the team focused with a positive mental attitude.
The teams first game was against rival Brookville and their ace pitcher, Grady. Grady would finish out the week with 2 shutouts in her other games. Although Dixie managed 5 hits, they could not keep pace with the Blue Devils. They had a late rally, but fell short 7-3. Next up was Madison. This time the Greyhounds leapt out front with a 6 run lead. Then the young team relaxed and allowed the Mohawks to rally and pull off a one run win. “We have to learn to finish,” said Coach Money wistfully. In the Carlisle game, the team reversed itself and waited until late to start scoring. They allowed Carlisle to build a 5 run lead, then put together a run of their own to close the gap, only to finally lose 6-5. That was two heart breaking one run losses back to back for the young team.
“The team needs to eliminate critical mistakes from being so young and inexperienced.” commented Coach Money, “We are trying to build a positive mental focus. And they still want to fight for every game and they have a will to win.” The team is hitting better this week, this was a concern earlier in the season. But with more repetitions from the good weather, the batters are beginning to get into a groove. He was concerned about his ace pitcher, Autumn Powell. The pitcher and catcher collided while trying to cover home plate. Autumn's hand was injured and the team will have to wait until after the weekend to see if it has recovered enough for her to return to the mound.
