Dixie Fastpitch Ends Week on Up Note
J. C. Tilton

The Dixie fastpitch has been in a rut but showed some signs of life at the end of the week. They played against Waynesville on Wednesday and allowed the Spartans to get on the board first. They scored a total of 4 runs in the first 3 innings although Dixie did hold them scoreless the rest of the game. Dixie did manage a run late to avoid the shut out in the 4-1 loss.

Next up was the Dixie Diamond Classic. Tri County North surged ahead of Dixie for a 10-1 win. They would later beat Stivers 4-1 for the tournament championship. South had lost to Stivers in their preliminary game and played Dixie in the consolation bracket. Autumn Powell had a strong performance as the Greyhounds blanked the Panthers for a 10-0 win. Coach Money is hoping that the win is a springboard for next week when league play begins in earnest.

He felt that Autumn Powell had a decent outing against Madison despite the loss, and praised her victory on Saturday. He also complimented Angela Leach on her relief work. He also felt that the team is “starting to learn how to be successful, we just have to avoid costly errors. The ‘freshomores' are gaining in confidence and they are beginning to contribute.” He lamented the 3 rainouts that the team has had, “a young team needs all the playing time they can get and it also gets the team out of rhythm. We need to improve our batting, Sarah Kirby(.431) and Megan Millikin(.313) are getting consistent, but we need everyone to start hitting.” Coach Money also noted that this next week the team has a tough schedule against league opponents - Brookville, Madison, and Carlisle. Hopefully this win will give the 2-4 team some confidence.

Coach Robinson was trying to put the wheels back on the cart at TVS. The team has struggled mightily this last week dropping two league games and losing both games in the Diamond Classic. “We are going to work on all facets of the game next week, we aren't hitting, pitching, or playing defense.” With the team on spring break this next week, maybe it will give them some extra time to regroup and get back to basics. Like Dixie, South has league games this next week against tough opponents. The team will need to be at their best. Comments:
