Hounds on Track
J. C. Tilton

The Dixie Greyhounds boys team got an early start to the Track and Field season this past Saturday. They went to the Middletown Invitational where they went up against some tough Division I competition. When you think of outdoor events in March, blustery winds, clouds, and drizzle are what I think of. But Saturday was more May-like than expected. Temps were in the high 60's and it was definitely tshirt and shorts weather. A pleasant way to begin the Spring sports season.

There were around a dozen school represented a few names that folks will recognize are Colonel White, Centerville, Springfield North. So Dixie had some tough opponents - they must have wanted to get their athletes toughened up early. To their credit several athletes were able to rise to the occasion. Overholtz placed in both long jump and high jump. His longest jump was 20 feet and 1/2 inch for 2nd place, while his highest jump was 5 feet 8 inches for 6th. The eventual winner of the high jump was from Colonel White and went an astonishing 6 feet 10 inches. The 4X800m relay team had a respectable showing, they ran an unofficial 8:49 and finished 5th. Metcalf threw the discus 122 feet and 9 1/2 inches. Due to deadlines, I had to leave the meet early but Metcalf was in 6th place at the time that I left. Stoff had tossed the discus 96 feet 71/2 inches but this was not enough to place. In the shotput, Stoff threw for 37 feet and 8 inches and Metcalf was warming up with a throw of 43 feet and some change. Scores did not make it in time before publication. Look for complete results in next weeks issue. Comments:
