South 6th Graders Furnish Halftime Show for Red Hawks
J. C. Tilton

On Wednesday, February 2, the 6th grade South girls basketball team was invited to supply halftime entertainment at a Miami University game. The women's Red Hawk team was playing Central Michigan. The 6th grade team played an exhibition game during halftime against a fellow Dayton Metro League team, the Madison Mohawks. The teams are currently in first and second place within their division. The other TVS and Madison teams were there as well to root for the 6th graders on the court - and the two teams combined to provide a vocal cheering section for the home Miami Red Hawks.

They had a hard fought scrimmage with both teams showing excellent basketball skills on the court at Millet Hall. There was even a friendly tug of war during one of the breaks where selected spectators got to go up against the Red Hawk mascot and cheerleaders. To wrap the night up the girls were able to talk with and get autographs from the Red Hawks after the game. Oh, and the Red Hawks fought back from a double digit deficit to win against a taller Central Michigan game. Local point guard Nikki Motto from Oakwood had problems finding her range in the first half, but connected on some timely treys to help contribute to the Miami victory. All in all it was a fun night for the girls - and who knows, maybe one of them could return in several years and be on the floor of Millet Hall as a collegiate player.
