Panthers Ground Hawks, Prepare for Big Weekend.
J. C. Tilton

The TVS Panthers played the Missinniwa Valley Black Hawks on Friday. The Panthers gained control of the game early and lead all the way. At the end of the first quarter they were up 18-10 due to solid defense. The team was up 31-19 at the half. And cruised to the win 60-40. The team played a stubborn half court defense and mixed in some full court pressure to keep the Black Hawks out of their game. Although the team was in the drivers seat for almost all of this game, Coach Augsperger saw some areas of concern, "We allowed too many offensive boards for Missinniwa Valley, and overall I don't think we rebounded as well as we could. We also need to keep the defensive pressure up and have more contested first shots."

On the other hand, Coach Augsperger found some positives, "Dale Spitler did a good job again on defense. Derrick Smith was 7 of 9 shooting from the floor, and Caleb Betzner also had a good night on defense. David Marker stepped it up a little and made some good plays on offense and defense, unofficially he had around 9 assists and 0 turnovers." Good numbers for any point guard.

The South Varsity Basketball is about to get some answers to their questions this next weekend. They have tough back to back games, first they play league leading Covington on Friday. Then a rematch against SWBL league leading Preble Shawnee. The Arrows will come into the game with revenge on their minds - South won in their first matchup at the holiday tournament and Shawnee would like to even things up this season. Also South is out of the running for the league championship, but have they improved enough to make a run in the state tournament? Can they be a spoiler and set the stage for another co-Championship in the CCC by defeating Covington? A Covington loss drops the Buccs back into a tie for first. When asked about keys for this coming weekend, Coach Augsperger responded, "We need to have confidence on offense that we can make shots. And we need to have team rebounding." He also added that, "This is a big weekend, it may be the toughest back to back games we'll have this season." Comments:
