Hounds Shred Polar Bears
J. C. Tilton
Dixie was able to capture its second victory of the season with a 59-19 win
over the Polar Bears in the SWBL match-up. Dixie controlled the game from
tip-off and never looked back. At halftime they held a comfortable 27-11 lead, but the Hounds
exploded in the third quarter going up 46-19. The Polar Bears felt the pent up
frustration of Dixie as they were pummelled for 32 minutes.
The Lady Hounds were able to halt a losing
streak that started with the first contest between these two teams on
December 4.

Dixie was led by Senior Teri Barnes with 13 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds,
and 6 steals. Senior Ashley Stamper contributed 15 points and 7 rebounds
and Junior Amanda York added 10 points.

Coach Meinking - "Finally. These kids having been working hard and tonight
we finally were able to put everything together and end this slide. I guess
it is pretty fitting it was with Northridge since that is when this all
started. Now we can bookend that part of the season and move on."

"These past couple of weeks we have improved in a lot of areas and we saw
glimpses of hope but then we would lose focus for 1 minute here another 2
minutes there and other teams would take advantage of it. Tonight we
finally played well for 32 minutes and you see what kind of team we can be
if everyone brings that to the court."

"I give our kids a lot of credit because it would have been easy to give up
during this time. There have been a lot of ups and downs and practices
haven't been fun at times but they hung in there. Now we just want to be
spoilers against other teams and get ready for the tournament."
Scoring for Dixie: Dixie: Kelhoffer 1, Stamper 15, Witt 2, Nelson 4, Barnes 13, Salyer 6, Dunn
6, Thomas 2, York 10
Junior Varsity score: Dixie 32 Nor 25 8-4 (4-2)

Next Games for Dixie: Thurs., Jan. 22 at Madison - which Dixie team will show up? Sat., Jan. 24 with Newton - Can Dixie maintain momentum?
